Bride Chris contacted One Weddings a few months before her big day. Even though she was a DIY, budget-minded bride, she knew she wanted the luxury of having a professional take over on the wedding day. Working with Chris and Chuck was a new experience for me and for them. They were a little surprised when we first met and they learned I was around the age same as their children. And, since Chris and Chuck found their true loves a little later in life, a wedding was not a brand new experience for them - so that was new for me. They didn't need help in every aspect of planning - in fact, Chris and Chuck really only needed my input on a few decisions and were mainly concerned with having no stress on the big day. And, despite our age difference, our planning meetings were always so comfortable and casual. From quick phone meetings to touch base, to timeline meetings over lunch, I so enjoyed my time with this couple.
They hosted their celebration at the Cedar Ridge Lodge at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park in Galloway, Ohio. All of Galloway is beautiful (farmland, wildflower fields) and the park was no exception. On the morning of the wedding, the plan was to have the ceremony outside on the deck and invite guests inside the lodge for the cocktail hour and reception. Thanks to some inclement weather, everything had to take place in the Lodge. Thankfully, the ceremony decor was kept to a minimum and their sweet arch was quickly moved inside and placed in front of the gorgeous stone fireplace. The cozy, intimate lodge was really the perfect place to say, "I do". It was beautiful by itself (feature stone fireplace, cedar beams on the ceiling, and window-lined walls with spectacular forest views), BUT, add their sweet, personal decor and it was absolutely perfect!
Chris and Chuck did so much their selves for the wedding; they wanted to be the ones to set up for the big day and see their vision come to life. But, once decor was set up, they went to get ready separately and the first time Chuck saw Chris in her wedding dress was when her son and father walked her down the aisle. The first time I saw Chris in her dress, she nearly brought tears to my eyes. She fit the definition of a Bride - just so classic, elegant, and beautiful. Her dress fit her perfectly - she seriously looked like a Greek goddess. Once I left Chris waiting with her sisters and daughter, I spotted Chuck and told him "Just wait until you see her. Chris looks so beautiful - she looks like a Greek goddess!" And Chuck replied, "Well, she always looks like that to me".
It didn't take hearing that to know that Chuck just adores Chris, but, it sure made my heart flutter. Love is such a beautiful thing. It was an absolute honor and pleasure to assist in perfecting their wedding day.
Chris and Chuck's photographer, Meghan, did such a great job! Between her and her second shooter (her sister), they captured the sweetest moments and most intimate details of the wedding.
This wedding was my first that had a live band instead of a DJ. The Lee Gantt Band (http://www.leeganttband.com) did an incredible job! Their planned set was phenomenal and so popular with the crowd, PLUS they took requests and learned one song on the spot!
It was such a pleasure to work with ALL of their wedding vendors, but, I especially appreciated the bartender, Becky. Once Becky had set up her bar area, she pitched in to help light candles and perfect the centerpieces. When the lemonade dispenser got a hole in it, she quickly solved the problem by transferring all of it to cups and making room on her bar for them. All throughout the event Becky was assisting in making everything run smoothly, while also maintaining the bar. And, as if she hadn't already done more than enough to perfect the wedding, Becky stayed and helped tear down the event and even transferred decor and equipment to the family's vehicles. She was so great at her job and went above and beyond to pitch in wherever she could.
One of my favorite things that Chris and Chuck did was choose to serve mini pies instead of a wedding cake. Guests got to choose their own, individually boxed pie, and they were delicious! "All you need is love... and a mini pie"
